Assassin
"If you value your coin, and your life, you'd be wise to avoid the dockyard and surrounding alleyways while in Last Spark. It's a breeding ground of the worst kind of people, thieves being the most mild of folk of that ilk. Only reason average folk have to be in that area is to look for trouble, and by trouble I mean murder for hire." - Irin's Guide For Displaced PersonsOne of the oldest professions in the world, Assassins are not unheard of in most countries of Undera. In truth, there are even four famous Orders of Assassins which have made a name for themselves, especially within the sprawling borders of the Ezidellan Empire.
Perception
Purpose
It is quite obvious that one would only hire an assassin to take the life of another person in their stead, but the reasons that draw or push someone to hire an assassin are many. The primary reasons usually encompass Political Gain, Personal Revenge or Vengeance, & Blood Feuds between Noble Houses.
Social Status
Skilled assassins may be respected for how masterfully they ply their trade, but the admiration usually ends there. Many believe that assassins are made up of violent criminals and escaped slaves looking to lash out at the injustices of their previous livelihoods.
Operations
Workplace
While those who are members of one the reclusive Assassin Orders might have a headquarters or series of safe houses to return to or make business deals in, their workplace is wherever the next mark assigned to them resides or hides.
Provided Services
Most Assassin Orders follow similar protocol wen it comes to contracts. First, a contract must be made. Two copies are made, one for the contractor, one for the archives of the Order. Many demand half payment of the expected fee for their services at this stage to seal the contract. Secondly, the Order assigns one of their assassins to the contract. Unless detailed within the contract, how the assassin terminates the mark is up to their skill and discretion. Finally, after the contract had been fulfilled and proof presented to the client, the second half of the payment must be paid. Any clients who fail to pay usually find themselves paying far more than the price of the original contract at the hands of the wronged Order.
Dangers & Hazards
While there is no occupation without its dangers, being an Assassin only draws those who have nothing left to lose or who have no fear of living in near constant danger. Aside from the illegal nature of their work, there are numerous factors which could go wrong with a contract. From dealing with hired security, to traps both magical and mundane to the very real possibilities of confrontation with the marked person, or botching the job by not ensuring death. Assassin Orders are also very cut-throat when it comes to contracts and regions of operation. Coming across and having to confront a rival assassin is a deadly reality as well.
