Agent

Agents are another group within the Aspída Lodge that are typically not full-time members of the lodge, but instead are usually contacts or operatives from various businesses or inside certain organizations. Merchants with a contract to the protectorate, sailors or other forms of transport hired by the protectorate, or voluntary informants from inside organizations are examples of different kinds of agents. Stores or restaurants that are fronts for illegal trade or imports to the protectorate, such as weaponry outlawed in parts of Kankou or unregulated imports, are common in large trade hubs and in places with stricter regulations or laws the lodge does not agree with.
Most agents do not intend to reach a higher rank, as they are simply contacts with their own solid jobs, however higher-up agents can be career-path members acting as messengers or sleuths.

Qualifications

  • Signed contract of loyalty and the voluntary admission of personal information to the lodge's archives.
  • A significant standpoint to offer help or resources to the lodge.
  • The lodge regularly contracting services from the individual and having a good, solid track record on both sides with this contracting.
  • Possible previous reliable, successful work as a lodge scout.

Appointment

An agent is approved by a Lieutenant usually, but can also be approved by a Lance Knight or the Commander herself. The agent is given a badge in exchange for their signed contract and personal information.

Responsibilities

  • Supplying the lodge with resources, be it goods, services, meeting places, and so on in exchange for payment and the lodge's business with them.
  • Responsibilities can be quite broad for agents, as their jobs are the reason for their being hired most of the time and as such they vary in accordance to what they provide the lodge.
  • A career-path agent may be tasked with being a secure messenger, tracking down certain individuals or items, or checking in on certain places or people as requested by their superiors.

Benefits

Agents are paid according to their specific contracting with the lodge. The payment depends on what is provided at any given time and how much is asked of the agent and their business.
Career-path agents are different, however, and are paid monthly so long as they co-operate and do the work that is assigned to them to the best of their ability. They are typically paid between 15-20 gold a month with bonuses according to their feats in their assigned tasks. They are sometimes given refuge as well if they do not have it otherwise, being able to stay for free or for discounted rates at local inns, taverns, and so on so long as they are actively doing their job and staying loyal and dedicated to the protectorate.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Career-path agents are given a basic uniform, however it is only used in certain meeting situations which are very occasional in nature. They are usually given pen, ink, and notebooks, the notebooks being turned in for review when assignments are complete and information has been written within. Within the notebook will often be information sent back to the agent on targets of interest and so on, describing appearances, names, maps, and what to look out for as references.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

  • If an agent breaks the contract of loyalty by giving away information to a third party that is not approved, the agent will lose all business from the lodge and the agent's badge will be taken away. Often, if this is the case and depending on the severity of the traitor's misdeeds, the traitor will be interrogated by force and/or approached with hostility and threat by the lodge. If not physical threat, then threat of exposing certain activities by the agent to the government as a means to have their business destroyed if they do not comply. Their personal information is kept by the lodge and the individual's file is marked as a traitor. Breaking the contract is not a good idea, and most agents know that.
  • An agent can be dismissed if they turn in their badge and end the contract peacefully, either saying in person or sending a message explaining why they are doing so. The lodge can still request business from them, but the previous agent is not required to comply after they are dismissed and can request that the lodge be completely dissociated from them and their work if they so please. The lodge keeps their personal information on file, but it is not marked with negative connotation, only with dismissal.
