Geiger Caps
Geiger Caps (Amanita Sphaerospermum) are giant mushrooms found in areas of the underworld that have had prolonged radiation, usually towards the upper levels or around areas of nuclear disaster. They are easily identifiable by their large size and their dark green caps with glowing bright spots. Geiger Caps feed off of radiation, and so their presence is a clear indication of areas that are inhospitable to humans and animals. It is hoped that these fungi will clear the radiation from these areas and humans will once again be able to venture through these currently deadly regions.
[[Warning - do not approach; Gieiger Caps grow only in areas that have too much radiation for humans to live through, and even with protective clothing the spores they release can block breathing apparatus - Dr Nathan Schmidt]]
Anatomy
A perceived single Geiger Cap is made up of a thick trunk supporting a large head, altogether standing up to 10ft tall. The large head can cover an area as large as the fungi is tall, and is covered in dark green skin with large spots that glow in the absence of light. The Fungi in one area are in fact all one organism connected by a system of veins and roots that spread out underground or over hard surfaces that they can't burrow into.Senses
A patch of Geiger caps sense touch through its system of veins and roots or the Fungi stalks themselves. When this happens, the mushroom caps release a mass of spores. These tiny radioactive particles are dense enough to block sight and clog masks and breathing apparatus, and few have survived long when caught in a spore storm.
