New Coalakley

Is just a normal city, once considered the last one of the country of Flerence and later the country itself.
Like many human settlements, it tolerates some institutions and structures, and a government of sorts coexists with the traditional anarchy.

Government

While there is a democratically elected mayor in the city, and a reasonably horizontal hierarchy of experts dedicated to the permanent study of the different aspects of life in what's left of Flerence Country, not everyone obeys the guidelines they establish in an attempt to make things better for everyone.
Sometimes those who aren't benefited by the rules are the ones to ignore them, but more often than not the rejection is a matter of principle: they never pay attention to their statements to make sure that the leaders don't have enough power to try and reinstaurate the corruption age.

The old city

Among the debris of the skyscrapers that were demolished a couple of centuries ago, you'll find the remodeled apartment buildings and a mixture of houses that go from empty ruins to beautiful homes.
It's not a nice place to live in, but it's more convenient for those who work in the restoration of ancient technologies and resources.

The city

All sorts of modern buildings located in what used to be the poor area of the original city and its surroundings.
Despite the chaotic design, it's a comfortable place. Here is where the markets, parks, leisure areas, magic industry, and the majority of farms and other productive buildings are located.

The fields

As the city grew, they ignored the area where soil was contaminated, which meant that the newest farms in the north were separated from the rest of the city by a considerable distance.
On the other hand, wood processing as well as the dangerous or disruptive industry settlements are located far from the main city, sometimes because of logistics or moral reasons, but often because it's not safe to try and settle in a place where you are not welcomed.

History

Flerence was the last powerful country to instaurate a Tolerance Law. Soon after, everybody else gave in and the rest is history. Flerence was one of many countries to determine that the next problem to solve was the corruption in governments. Instead of fighting back, the rulers of this country encouraged change in public and sabotaged it in secret, leading to the waste of resources, and complicating the people's life in a way that led to many crimes against the Law of Tolerance.
Most people left the country, others died due to the poor life conditions. Many simply ended their days happily in some isolated area. The natality rate decreased. The government was never abolished, they just runned out of resources and means to control them.
Coalakley was the only city that didn't fall, not completely, because it had always counted with many resources and was designed to flourish. Used to the good life, as soon as the luxuries disappeared, the rulers fled to look for greener pastures. That meant the city had less time to decay, and preserve more resources. Many have left, but the remaining population rescued some of the infrastructure and market, taking advantage of the rich soil that was currently abandoned.
Many of the surviving citizens of Flerence decided to move in, and the resulting society became a New Coalakley: all what's left from the once prosperous country.
