Summer Camp 2024
This year I'm working with Shards, which is the worldbuilding of a novel that I really want to write but refuses to fully make sense. I'm adding the pieces that makes sense and using inspiration to try and fill the blanks.
The story happens in two different places: a city located in a world that is a lot as Earth as we know it, and the Company’s premises, where everything is possible (except dying for good, apparently). Most worldbuilding is for the latter, of course.
If inspiration demands it, I’ll jump to the Known Universe for some prompts.
CHANGE |
---|
The Company is extremely used to see changes, but they are also caught in timeloop. At the beginning of the story, unknown to reader and characters, a major change already happened. I guess I could try a combination of the changes that have shaped the Company’s routine, with the ripples that hint that major change. |
Goal
—
Minimun required: Two articles each week to achieve Copper.
The actual goal: Sixteen articles, to get Silver, whenever I have the time and energy.
If everything goes great: I'll go for Diamond (32 prompts)
—
That said, the real purpose (which I always risk to forget) is to work on the worldbuilding that the story needs.

REFUGE |
---|
For most characters in the story, that is the Company. Both employees and clients are here precisely because they are trying to cope with unwelcomed changes. Everything in the building and the village came to be either as an answer to somebody’s need to survive or stop some kind of change, or as the change they needed when something constant in their life became unbearable. Even the conection between the characters is some form of refuge more often than not. |

Update
Accountability and Community
It’s probably too late in the month to look for that accountability partner, but I have high hopes that I’ll get some help to stay on track (and inspired) in the Infinite Imaginations Discord server, and I know there is always someone willing to provide some perspective, questions or answers in the worldbuilding and writing channels of World Anvil.Looking for
ACCOUNTABILITY BUDDY,
BELIEF |
---|
Long story short, people in the Company premises come from different worlds and times. They came up with different theories about this world they couldn’t explain, and some of those theories have merged with time. Those theories include some guessing, adaptations of things they believed before, and even some scientific observation. The latter is more likely to be accepted officialy, as well as the explanations provided by The Granter, but that doesn’t mean that everything else is disregarded of frown upon. |
Inspiration
Take a look to the Inspiration secction in the Meta
I know I added some bookmars to pixabay images during the last summercamp!
After looking those two I should be ready to try and create that bank of inspirations…
Will I find the right music this time?
No, I did not. But I found these.
Make a list of stubs and variables that I can or should turn into proper articles.
Decay |
---|
This is a difficult one. And it shouldn’t, really, because decay is what the clients are fighting or avoiding, and what the employees are trying to recover from. Is just that I often think of it as a sudden change or something that was never meant to be. But yes. Shards come from decay more often than not. And many of the ghosts probably take that shape or cause the decay of something else. On the other hand I have the feeling that people living in The Company’s premises expect or aspire to embrace decay, yet there is always something where they draw the line. A death they can’t accept, a memory they can’t let go off, a trait they still fight to keep or develop. Shards react to that, even if the person itself is trying to deny it. |
Environment
I won’t start a rant about how the concepts of writing space or optimal environment trigger me, but I certainly won’t try to create either of those things while I try to prevent my laptop from crashing on the floor in the only place where the wifi works. I usually just compensate for it by creating a virtual writing space, but right now it’s so hot that all I can think about is “No”. That said, I do have a file to write at when I’m offline (I’m using it to write the fourth week’s homework).Get enough mint teaReview Shards homepageReview Known Universe homepageReview pillar articles of ShardsPolish pillar articles of ShardsPolish my author profile
Nice and neat little article you have here! Awesome progress and thoughts. I love exploring your mysterious worlds. As for an accountability buddy, I'm glad you're confident to find one in Infinite Imaginations. XD and of course I'll be one as I start hosting the daily activities for Summer Camp and checkins and such. Much success with your plans! <3

Yay! I wasn't sure if you were going to organize activities until I read your homework yesterday, but I knew there would be something :)
