Selfishness, cruelty and other wrongdoings

Once upon a time an unhappy world, plagued with unfair rules that made life easier for most people but terribly painful for anyone who didn’t conform to the norm. Somehow violence was allowed against those who didn’t have enough friends. Limits were anywhere. Appearances were everything.   The good news is they fixed it. The unfair rules were abolished. The bad news is all rules were unfair under one interpretation or another. The utopia they created was as good for the worst monsters as it was for the best intentioned citizens.   It’s an extremely complicated situation, so we should better focus on the school. This is where the story takes place. This is where the worst monsters learn the arts of hurting others for their benefit or fun.   We should focus on this, because the main character has little time to understand that everyone here is just people. People with horrible habits, scary gifts and even more horrible and scary goals, but people anyway.
