Devil's Moor

The Devil's Moor is a moorland located in the northeastern part of Britannia, near the Hexhamshire Moors. It is not habitable by humans, but some species of plants and animals manage to eke out an existence on the inhospitable landscape.   The Devil's Moor is a large archaeological site where several standing stones (often carved with writings) and stone circles still exist. The peat bogs also preserve bodies centuries old.

Geography

The Devil's Moor is a relatively flat area (although with some hills) that is covered in heath and peat bogs. There is a single river that runs through (simply called the Devil's River) most of the moor. Only a few trees dot the landscape.

Fauna & Flora

Despite inhospitable conditions, several species of flora and fauna makes the moor their home.   Flora in the moor is especially sparse; large areas are heathlands and peat bogs dot the landscape as well. A few species of lichen and moss also manage to live in the acidic soil.   Fauna of the moor includes several species of birds, a special breed of horse called the Devil's Pony, and the Moor Viper. Sheep also graze the sparse grass. Supposedly, the moorland is also home to the Devil's Monster, a creature feared by humans and witches alike.

Natural Resources

There are only a few natural resources, including the sheep, Devil's Pony and peat.

Author's Notes

Header image from here. Sidebar image from here.   I received information on moors from the Hexhamshire Moors (link here) and general Moorlands (link here).   Prompt: Describe an inhospitable area in your world and what its environment is like.
