Clanurum
The Clanurum, also known as The People's Eyes, is an artifact used in the Eastern Celean Empire. It is held in the capital's plaza on top of a pedestal.
During weekly announcements the Emperor will place their hands on the Clanurum. The color the artifact takes will then be used in deciding whether the Emperor remains in power or is removed from their position. Other members of the government also use it, but it is not mandatory.
Anyone who wishes to touch it is allowed to, and this is often done in teenage dares, though the color rarely changes for them.
Many myths surround Clanurum as nothing is known about its origins, aside from a short passage in an ancient text about the creation of the Celean Empire (See Origins of Celean for more information). It is uncertain whether this document is entirely accurate or not, though most scholars consider it at least partially true, if embellished at points.
Function
Clanurum functions in the same way as all Clarinae; when someone places their hand atop it, it will read the will of everyone within the Empire and channel that into one of many colors. The color it glows reflects the overall opinions and feelings of the people towards the individual who touched it.
The color that is channeled ranges from red to green, with the specific meaning behind each color explained within the Origins.
Uses
As the Empire is so large, Clarinae are practically useless for the average individual, since the opinions of everyone in the Empire, including those who have no idea who they are, are included in the channeling. This makes it so only people who are well known (for example: the Emperor, or a particularly popular artisan) can find use in these artifacts.
This stipulation, however, is extremely useful when judging the nature of members of the government.
And from the hands of Celea came Clanurum, shining a brilliant green. The people placed their trust in her and she returned in kind; Clanurum was the proof of her promise with the will of the people held inside.
