Serial: An October Hike #1

The others wouldn't understand, but this is something I have to try. That is what I tell myself as I stand with a group of strangers, by a nature park not too far from home. It feels very far from home though. Alone with strangers, hiding my ears under a chullo. Hoping that I can hide my heritage so that it won't matter - a goat in sheep's clothing.

We're quite the varied group: The youngest being either me or the two girls hyping up each other by the road, and the oldest being an older looking man giving "hippie wanderer vibes". I take in a deep breath. I have no doubt I can do the hike. But socializing with normies, pretending to be one of them just feels so... dishonest. Even if it comes from a need to be ordinary. Just this once.
