Summer Camp Prep 2024

Summer Camp 2024 Pledge

I have big plans for this year's Summer Camp, and I'm clearing out other events and hobbies. My world needs a big push, and I need the creative juices to make that happen!

Last year marked my first year on WorldAnvil, and I worked hard on my first world - Star Tiger. Earned myself a nice Gold trophy to show for it. I was hyperfocused and eager to get going and it was a joy. This year I am looking to outshine myself, and give my love and focus to my beloved world of Unveiled.

Week 1: Change

Assignment 1: Consider what kind of changes would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
Unveiled is all about change:
What happens when ordinary humans are no longer alone in society?
How do different fae creatures take to being a part of human society?
Assignment 2: Decide how many prompts you'll go for during Summer Camp.
We're going all or nothing, baby!
Assignment 3: Get your categories and tags organized!
This one gets to me. How do I wanna organize my page, and how is it supposed to look. Ugh, I would pay someone to do this. But it will really enhance the look and draw of my world, so I know that I have to do it.
Assignment 4: Take a look at your meta, primer, and any other high-level document and update it.
Luckily I spend some time on fixing the meta lately, but I'm making this assignment about the look of the page and getting a world picture drawn.

Week 2: Refuge

Assignment 1: Consider what kinds of refuge would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
The need of refuge is big in Unveiled. The Fae among us needs to be protected - in some regions more than others, and many humans feel unsafe around Fae. All need a safe place, all need comfort, and that is a center pillar in Unveiled.
Assignment 2: Find a community - Whether that's our Discord server, Facebook Group, your RPG or friend group, or something else.
I'm drowning a bit on the Discord. Might look into making a local group or something.
Assignment 3: Find ways to improve styling and layout in your world!
I really want to get this done, but I don't know where to start or how to do it. I can always add more drawings, but that's all I know.
Assignment 4: If you're a CSS wizard, maybe take the time now to give it a polish.
Are there lessons available anywhere?

Week 3: Belief

Assignment 1: Consider what kind of beliefs would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
Religion is not a focal point for the stories of Unveiled, but belief in oneself and others and who to believe is. The world also tackles the question of what is superstition, urban legends and myths and what truths do they hold.
Assignment 2: Create a bank of inspirations! Quotes, music, description of experiences and shower thoughts, etc.
I have been asking friends about works that reminds them of what I'm trying to make, and I am well into reading A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. Trying to get into writing scenes as well, and getting feedback on them.
Assignment 3: Find art and pictures that inspire you, and grab a map if you don't have one (and need one).
This digs into a question that I still don't have the answer to. I believe, I'm placing the home town in northern central Europe, but I'm still not sure about where. And whether it should be in a real, existing city, or a fictional one (like Arkham or Metropolis). I'm steering towards a fictional one, but I'm still not certain.
Assignment 4: Check your inspirations again. Are they still relevant? Can you find any that better represent the current state of your project?

Week 4: Decay

Assignment 1: Consider what kind of changes would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
Alea's life is about change.
Assignment 2: If you like special tea when you write, stock up for a month. Tidy your office, make a “do not disturb” sign, and think about any other last-minute strategies to optimize your writing space and time!
Well, apparently I'm writing fine in clutter and chaos - I just need to get started. Making sure dinner is easier done in these days is a good thing. Lots of cocoa and maybe a focused playlist.
Assignment 3: Review your world homepage to hook potential readers!
This is one of the important things I want to do, but fight to get done. I wish I just knew more about BBCode, but I also kinda don't want to go through the learning phase.
Assignment 4: Take a look at your author profile and pillar articles on your world and polish them!
Already played around with the profile a bit, but I still see profiles out there looking way better than mine, and I want to learn from that.
