Redweed

The desert was quiet, except for the soft rattling of the redweed that blew across the sand. It's funny how humankind created the very thing they had once believed covered the surface of Mars, made famous in musicals that existed a hundred years before the plant.

Redweed is a plant native to Mars. People often use it as a drug.
It is thought that the plant was created when a drug dealer grew frustrated with the high cost of Martian imports and instead decided to splice the genetic material of marijuana with that of an unknown tumbleweed, creating a hardy plant that couls survive the deserts of mars. It can survive almost everywhere, and is hard to control. It will often get blown into gardens, school fields, farms and other locations.

Very common, illegal on Mars, but hardly ever inforced.
