There are only two requirements for Knight-Vigilant:
One must have reached adulthood for their species.
They must have proven themselves to the common folk.

Appointment

Traditionally, the Knight-Vigilant is bequeathed the title through a special ceremony. In order for the Knight-Vigilant to be accepted, they are tasked with Three tasks that symbolize their benevolence to the people.
The First Task: The Gauntlet of Shadows in which the candidate for Knight-Vigilant's courage is put to the test The Second Task: The Forge of Titans, This trial has the candidate prove their might, mental fortitude and ability to wield power responsibly The Third Task: The Oracle's Enclave, the final trial has the candidate challenges the wisdom and empathy
If the individual finds success in all three trials, a grand feast is held in their honour, after which they are bequeathed the title though little does the Candidate know, this feast is a fourth and final trial which is used to determine whether or not they truly are worthy of the title of Knight-Vigilant

The Responsibilities of The Knight-Vigilant are varied but all equally important.

The Knight-Vigilant is a powerful political figure comparable to a minister of defence.
In addition, they have a stipend granted to them from the rulers of the four great nations.
They also have the trust of the citizens, the other nations have attempted to use them to offer propaganda, however, The Knight Vigilant keeps the national leaders honest, or at least relatively so.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

There are a few ways for The Removal or Dismissal of Knight-Vigilant. The most common method is simply through the death of the Knight-Vigilant.
However, Rarely will a Knight-Vigilant may become Disgraced. In the centuries since the order was established, this has only occurred once after the Knight-Vigilant was ousted for corruption and conspiracy by the current Knight-Vigilant.
