Eousi

"The only reason people go to Eousi is that they don't know they can go anywhere else."
— two mers talking about Eousi

Demographics

The demographics of Eousi are skewed and the area should not be considered a "settlement" as it fits neither the mer nor land dweller definition. Most of the "inhabitants" of this area are males between the ages of thirteen and seventeen (depending on how skinny they are). The reason for this is because Eousi is a mining "settlement" with the workers (inhabitants) living there if (and only if) they don't have any other place to live. For the most part, mer in Eousi tend to be at the lower economic scale or don't have family/friends they can rely on.

Government

Eousi is governed by the Waves Mining Corp. They pay their "employees" per extraction of wauxite (wauxite is a type of mineral that is more easily found underwater, and has properties that allow potions to last longer. The Waves Mining Corp. specializes in underwater retrieval and continues on to sell the item to potion making factories such as Potent Potions.)    Waves Mining Corp. pays each mer at the end of the week for the total number of wauxite they uncover. In the beginning, it was easy for mers to steal lumps from other mers (instead of outright theft, most thefts occurred as a product of gambling). Changes were made so that lumps were collected nightly, and a tally was kept by the land dweller in change.   When a land dweller is caught fabricating the amount brought in (lowering the numbers), the mer in the area were happy to teach them how to breathe underwater. Consequently, the company began hiring mer and placing them in positions of power and putting them as the partner of the land dwelling. This keeps falsehoods on both sides low.    Other than that, there are no guards at the site, no medical personnel, no managers to keep the mer working. If they wish to be paid, they bring up wauxite. If they don't, they are free to swim and work anywhere else, the company is fine with that.

Infrastructure

The area of Eousi has several spots where mer can settle down and sleep, but for the most part, any built structures are ones that will (most likely) be torn down by strong currents and/or the winter season's waves. This happens as the company doesn't want to put the money into building longer-lasting structures and is not interested in making this area into any type of "true" settlement (such as one that would have a hospital, a school, stable homes, etc.)   Currently Eousi has six areas that can be classified as sleeping spots, one area that is used as a cleaning station, and a few smaller areas that can be used as storage (if an item is too big to be kept on a mer at all times).
