Frais Elite Guards
The Frais Elite Guards spend their time practicing and drilling in the rare case that the Queen of Frais will decide to leave her palace and descend upon the city. For now, they have a weekly practice to show which of them is in the best shape, which is most flexible, and which is the strongest. What usually ends up happening is that the queen will choose the topmost guards, test them inside her palace, and then demand that the guards do their best to be even stronger. There are rumors (mostly from the guards that have not been chosen), that she's teaching them ways to please her and make her happy as well as guard her life with their own. The guards that have been chosen don't say much about the matter and remain close-lipped, which makes it hard for them to refute the rumors that continue to gain traction like wildfire.
The units are made up of squads with two offensive weapons and two defensive weapons. They don't rotate once a unit is made up (this is to make sure that they will have each others backs) and what ends up happening is that the unit becomes more like a pack than a group of people. They stick together through thick and thin, and will usually refer to each other as brother, sister, or sibling. In addition to having an offensive and defensive weapon, they also split down the middle who knows how to best work ranged weapons and close-combat weapons.
The guards are paid almost nothing - this job grants them "experience," pays for all the food they eat, lodging for their sleep, and even gives them a small bonus each week "to be spent in the city." While some people say that the job is nothing but people being athletes and eye-candy, there are others that point out looking as if they cannot be beaten is also a way to make the enemy think twice about attacking.
