Blackgrass
Anomaly out of place
Just over the south arm of the southern Gologian mountain lies a curious spot. For several miles the land is dead, barren. It can only grow black, dead grass. Even that, however is misinformation, for the grass doesn't grow new, just remains as it is. The blades crinkle in any form of wind. This peculiar phenomenon gave rise to the region's name: Blackgrass.
No one lives there, and no one has seen an animal there for long. Not even insects like the place, usually bunching just outside its border. Horses flat refuse and dogs whimper when their masters cross that inexplicable threshold. Anyone who has stayed there long simply vanishes during the night. Clerics and wizards have come and all decide: it is no place for wholesome people to stay or enjoy. Many believe spirits of the dead haunt the place or that some malevolent force is active there. As a result, everyone stays away and sends a prayer to whichever god they serve. They never enter, and that's just as well, for once they do their ties to their deity or lord are severed until they leave.
