Druidic Eye Gems
Sitting on a golden disc supported by a small silver pole rests a marble. This marble is a glass sphere with playful green and blue circles. Underneath the disc are small marble-sized gems. They are relatively smooth but have some texture to them. They are spherical and light. They also happen to be the eyes of a forest king.
For unknown reasons, druids have a preternatural condition, especially the earthen ones, where their eyes harden into a crystalline object. It digests, so it never appears in any animal droppings. When crystalized, they take the color of the iris, for only the iris really crystalizes. It grows and replaces the rest of the eye as it dries up. The socket becomes engorged with the crystal. This makes extraction of the valuable item easy. The difficult part is finding a useful cadaver.
Many druids prefer a sky burial or some form of returning to the earth. Some have invented a method of transforming into a tree or some other static, living object. So the avenues to get said gems are few and illicit.
Most collectors refuse to hear from their seekers how they obtained such beautiful items. The seekers don't like to speak much on it either. Most of the time it is a chance encounter. But more commonly it is murder. The murders must be smart, though, for to kill a druid will incur the whole domain's wrath. They must choose carefully. This has caused many druids to shut themselves off from society.
The eyes can fetch a considerable price and are for aesthetic purposes only. They can be illegal to possess in many countries and counties, but this doesn't stop people from trading them. It is no wonder druids flee to the wood!
