Secondary Money
Cowries are used as currency for special favors or sometimes regular goods and services. These cowries are used in funerary rites, but also in jewelry and dress. Depending on their disposition, one may be inclined to receive cowries instead of regular payment. Naturally, the price and value of the cowries increases the further inland one travels.
Funerary Traditions
A few different traditions exist for recently departed. Those from the coasts prefer to use cowry shells on the eyes and bury the dead in designated sea caves. grave keepers watch over them and ensure the funerary rites occur with local clerics or priests. Those who cannot afford such a rest or are too far away from the sea for a sea cave burial are put on a funeral pyre and burned, their ashes scattered in the sea, which can be a journey unto itself, and indeed some may wait a generation before being properly "buried."
