Tinderbox
Whether on the road at camping nearby the home, the only thing necessary, besides a warm blanket, is a way to make fire. In a pinch one can use a knife and flint on kindling. While this method works just fine, the mainstay is the jumble tinderbox.
Usually travelers carry two different sizes of tinderboxes: one small and one normal. The small one can fit in a pocket and holds a small iron ring and rough flint with some small tinder-twigs. The normal size fits nicely in a rucksack. It fits a sliver ingot of iron and several flints. It contains a roomy compartment for longer tinder and small kindling.
