Colombian Defense Forces

The Colombian defense forces is the group of organizations that prepare, coordinate, and execute exercices and operations related to defend the Colombian independence, secure Colombian borders and trade, and defend Colombian interests worldwide.

The Colombian Defense Forces, sometimes called Colombian Armed Forces or the Colombian National Security Forces, and usually abbreviated CDF in English, has the following obligations as commanded by the Constitution of Colombia:

Defend the geopolitical, economical and cultural interests of Colombia regionally, but if possible, worldwide
Defend the sovereignty of Colombia, as well as her independence, if needed forcefully, and at all costs necessary
Defend the national and natural borders of Colombia
Prepare, Asess and help Recover from natural or manmade catastrophes
Defend national important assets and figures

Origins

The CDF are said to be the only law enforcement organization in the new world whose origins can be traced back to the Roman Empire. During centuries, there was no distinction between the military forces, elite forces, law enforment personnel and police organizations, all functions being carried out by the basic infantry. By the time Colombia became independence, these functions had remained almost intact in Iberia, reason why, after the defection and later integration of Granada's Garrison into the Colombian Defense Forces, also known as the "2nd Royal Grenadiers Corps", or the "American Patriots", this system can be considered to have continued since then, and into the police, which split from the armybefore the 19th century, therefore becoming the only country in the new world whose ancentry goes back to Roman times and whose military, police and emergency teams can all be considered as lawful law enforcement organizations.
