Presidential Birthday Celebrations (Colombian festivity)
Also called Presidential day, the Presidential Birthday Celebrations are a series of ceremonies that date back to the times after WW1 when it was proposed to make yearly military parades all around the country to increase patriotism and show off both military technological advancements and military professionalism.
During this period, national symbols are displayed all over the country and cities are purposefully over-embellished to display unity and wealth, as well as to promote nationalism and patriotism among citizens.
Celebrations for this day don't have a unique formula, as each of them was to be made as unique as possible. The ceremony described below represents one of the millions of possibilities for celebration arrangements that there could be, this one being considered as a conservative one.
A typical celebration
Celebrations would start the day before the president's birthday with a massive military parade in a city chosen by the president, usually one with personal significance, one located in the heartland of Colombia, or one affected by a notorious accident or natural disaster. The ceremony would conclude with the Colombian anthem and units being dispatched to their respective bases of operations. The second day of celebrations would commence with fighter squadrons portraying the Colombian flag in the sky, with the anthem and Defense Forces also performing minor parades, after which the president, being his birthday, would pronounce a speech congratulating the Defense Forces, as well as speaking about important events to come or big plans prepared for the immediate future. Third day of celebrations would usually server as to wrap all celebrations up, with people usually gathering up to eat or party together and National Police making displays and parades instead of the Defense Forces, usually focused towards creating the picture of a friendly, helpful, loyal and fair Police force around the country.Credits: Top image: Colombian flag - thevaccinereaction.org, modified by Colombus
