The Silbón

The whistler, in Spanish "El Silbón" is a fantastic Colombian myth common to the area of the Colombian Llanos.
According to the legend, the whistler is a young man that murdered and disembowelled his father for killing his wife, accusing her of being a "slut". When his grandfather knew about the incident, he ordered him to be tied up to a lamp post, lashing his back until it was completely destroyed. Afterwards, his woulds were cured with pure alcohol. He was then condemned by his grandfather to carry his father's bones with him for all eternity. He was then set free, with two starving dogs set upon him.
It has been sometimes described as a 6 meter tall dark skeletic shadow that roams over the treetops, hunting for unfaithful men and carrying the bonesof all his victims. Some other versions describe him as a tall thin man with a hat, who carries his father's bones and hunts for drunkards.

It is said that when the whistling sounds close, there's no danger, and the whistler is far away, but when the whistling sounds distant, it means it is nearby.

It is also claimed that the whistler can sometimes be seen unloading his bone sack in front of a house's door, and counting them, to later leave again. Should someone hear the bones while being counted, then a member of that person's family will not wake up ever again.
There is an astounding amount of people in the Los llanos (Colombia) that claim having seen the whistler, but as with many other legends, there is a lack of substantial proof related to the existence of this creature.
