Aabhaag

A practice carried out by orcs but one that extends to most residents of the Jayawardana region; the Aahbhaag is a celebration of the half-way point between a person's Naming Days. With the day of birth being marked as an important time in one's life and a day of solitary meditation and contemplation, the Aabhaag is a time to celebrate with one's family and friends their life and accomplishments. This too is a time to celebrate being that many days nearer to achieving perfection and returning to the Realm of Jubiloch, attaining the heavenly perfection that is (or should be) the goal of all mortal creatures--so far as the orcs and other adherents to the beliefs of Jayawardana are concerned.   Gifts are given on this day and the celebrated party is decorated with ink and finery to set them apart. The ink patterns are complex and the longer the celebrated person has been alive, the more of their skin is covered to denote their age and experience. These inks are created to last for at least a week so that those who were not present may still know of the significant day that has passed for the celebrated soul.   The traditional foods served are lamb and a dish of spiced turnips with the dessert being a sort of spiced custard.   Gifts are lavished upon the person, though they are small and consist of things that are either perishable or consumable in some fashion; a reminder that life is fleeting and nothing last forever. Gifts of incense and foods are expected but in recent times gifts of money have started to creep into the custom as well. Clothing may be gifted but this is rarer than even coin and weapons are taboo to give during this day; this period of the celebration of life and the development of the spirit through meditation is no time or place to contemplate violence or war.
