As Vaasa is a land with a rich, ancient history, and many great civilizations have risen and fell through the ages, the spirits of the dead are encountered frequently by brave adventures as they explore the ruins of the land. Often, spirits appear as visions attached to magical items and relics, remnants of the former owners. Or spiritual energy will remain attached to a locality where some great or tragic event occurred. Adventurers may come upon the site of an ancient battle and briefly see visions of warriors long departed from the mortal realm, locked in combat. Or they may come to the ruins of a long forgotten temple and experience a vision of a ritual that was performed there long ago.
These types of spiritual encounters are essentially a snapshot in time, a brief glimpse into the past. The spirits are not actively present or able to engage the viewer. There are, of course, actual spirits of the dead, or ghosts, that may remain tied to a local, that may serve to help, or hinder, those who come upon them.
