The Sentinels

Founded by Reventine emperor Veleran I, the Sentinels are a nation-wide peacekeeping force meant to extend the emperor's influence throughout his realm both through force and clandestine means. As a group sanctioned directly by the Revenhold court, the Sentinel's training and equipment is unusually advanced for a peacekeeping force and their authority gives even the more powerful nobles of the realm pause.

Structure

The Sentinel High Command is headquartered at Fort Talec in the capital of Revenhold and answers to the emperor through the Commander of the Sentinels, the highest office in the order, usually awarded to a nobleman who sits on the imperial council. He is assisted by a small, but effective staff that keeps the Commander from being flustered by all the reports that come from the regional commands and bring only the important matters to his attention.   Outside of Revenhold, the Sentinels are organized within regional commands, each of them headed by a region commander and his staff, mirroring the High Command on a lower level, being responsible for peacekeeping a specific region. These regiments are then divided into semi-independent patrol groups that patrol smaller areas of such regions and vary in size based on the level of unrest, danger, population and other factors that are analyzed and put forward by the clandestine branch of the order and approved by High Command.   The patrol groups are headed by lieutenants and divided into individual patrols headed by sergeants. New members are trained at Fort Talec and then sent into whichever regional command needs them the most, where they are then assigned to a specific patrol. Members within a patrol group are often put on different patrols on a monthly basis, so a patrol is rarely permanent, whilst a sentinel only leaves their patrol group if they are reassigned from the regional or High Command.   The clandestine branch of the Sentinels is the emperor's own secret police and is made to work closely with the executive branch of the Sentinels in order to ensure efficiency, although there is a certain rivalry between the two branches and the officers often have difficulties making the partnership work. The clandestine branch has a command structure similar to the executive branch, although with less members, as the spies only need to watch chosen high-risk targets and areas instead of patrolling most of the region. They are headed by the Spymaster, who also directly responds to the emperor and is a member of his council.
