The Primordial Twins
Long before the dawn of the Second Age, before creation itself, a there raged a war between beings of incomprehensible power. These entities were less "beings" so much as they were fundamental properties of the universe made manifest. As they battled, the universe roiled and churned around them. J'numbra the Replete, represented the very concept of being; they wished to permeate the fabric of reality with matter and energy until it could hold no more-- a burning star of infinite size and brilliance. Diametrically opposing J'numbra stood Ma'ool the Empty, personification of the void. Unsettled by the cacaphony of the Replete's tumultuous creation, the Empty began to tear it to shreds, scattering the pieces throughout the endless cosmos. The conflict was instantaneous yet perpetual; it raged for eons but ended in the blink of an eye. Limitless energy pulsed forth from J'numbra's heart, cast into the boundless universe by Ma'ool. As one infinity raged against another, the Firmament fell from the sky. Their fate sealed by ruthless obstinance, the Primordial Twins would be undone by the chaos they sowed. From the throes of perdition, cataclysm incarnate loomed to bring them low...
Mythology & Lore
Practically nothing is known about the First Age. Precious few artifacts remain from the era, and those that do paint a grim picture of the period. Considerably longer than the Second and Third Ages combined, the majority of the First Age occurred long before the conception of written words and mortal minds to pen them. According to scholars, the eons were filled with unrelenting chaos and calamity. Life during the Reign of Dragons was often short and fearful. Mortal kind would hide in the shadows for millenia before rising up alongside the Broken Pantheon to take control of the realm.
Cosmological Views
“While J'numbra and Ma'ool are typically held in equal reverence, most followers of the old gods regard J'numbra as divine victor. Considering the fact that we exist at all, there appears to be some truth to their creed. There many yet who claim Ma'ool to be supreme, asserting that the majority of the firmament by volume is empty space-- To their credit, save for a handful of stars scattered throughout the sky, our realm appears to be suspended in an endless void. Perhaps they have a point. I, however, am of the mind that the First War was fought to a stalemate, only ending when The Great Dragon intervened.” - Seer Vagus, 2A 1306.
Sects
While a majority of the old gods' faithful revere each of the Primordial Twins equally, there are two large factions within the faith that oppose one another.
The Union is dedicated to glorifying the myriad creations of J'numbra; only through Unity can mortal kind hope to grasp the splendor of the great work of The Replete.
Nobody is worthy to pay reverence to Ma'ool, as the very state of existing is an affront to the void. As such, Nobody is precisely the name taken by disciples of The Empty.
