The Southern Wastes

East of the Ashib Mountains and South of the Verrat Mountains lies an uncharted expanse of earth so inhospitable that one would be hard pressed even to find desert life clutching to what little it provides. The Ashib mountains block any moisture that may escape from the Kilimenga Expanse leaving only a small gap at the Northwest to allow in any moisture known as the Fewmon valley. There have been many explorers of the Godsfall desert who have refused to investigate this wasteland. Rumor has it there is eventually a sea if you were to cross straight South but that would require traversing innumerable canyons and crevasses. Some believe that when the gods still lived amongst the people there was a society of cannibals that lived here. There abhorrent acts attracted Zon-Kathun to become their patron, encouraging and rewarding vile acts. This taint began to stretch out to the good god fearing societies of man and before it's corruption could travel any further the Pantheon of the Nine awakened all their strength to destroy Zon-Kathun and the many peoples that once inhabited the region, forever leaving it blighted as a reminder of the god's terrible judgement.   Presently the wastes are while mysterious relatively harmless, you aren't going to settle here at least those living near never have to fear of what lurks in it's shadows. Many followers from the Pantheon of the Nine pilgrimage here in order to draw closer to their chosen patron, trying hard to cleanse the evil within them as did the gods to those practitioners of evil. Apart from holy worship, the Ruby Empress has been known banish people who have committed the most heinous of crimes to these wastes. There is nothing of mark about these wastes beyond it's utter contempt for life save one instance that occurred in 908RR.   Many of citizens of Fewmon began to notice ominous clouds forming at a great distance. They gathered a team to figure out what may be the cause as several weeks had gone by without much change. They traveled as close as they dared for all around the air felt malicious. At the center of this storm lie a tower black as if cast from iron, only at it's highest window was there any light and it is still unknown whether it was lit internally or was open to the sky for at the center of the storm was a small opening and light befell the tower. The Adventurer's Lodge rallied an official request for an investigation. The results of the inquest however weren't to the satisfaction of the people for they say it was crumbled to rubble before they had arrived. Strangely however a man who was known to have entered the wastes a year prior, Vernon the Dustridden, emerged with a strange child leaving him in the care of a priest at the Stalux Cathedral.
