Bodhran
Mithlerien bodhrans, the original design as the instrument originates from the Isle of Mithlerien, range in diameter from 10–26 inches, although the most common size is 14–18 inches. The drum's sides are between 3 1/2 and 8 inches deep. Goatskin is sewn onto one side (other animal skins are sometimes used). One hand can be placed on the drum head's interior to regulate its pitch and timbre. There may be one or two crossbars that can be removed from the frame according to the preference of the musician.
The term bodhran comes from the Sylvan words "bodai" (drum) and "haraan" (hand).
