Investigator

A term applied to subsidiary branches of law enforcement, it can equally apply to law enforcement personnel who look into the details of crimes committed, political operatives attached to espionage activities that sort theough the reports of field agents, or even those trained as thieves. Regardless of their specific role, investigators are generally hired for a variety of tasks which require research, piecing together clues and a more subtle and detailed approach when working in the field.
