Ratling
Ratlings are unique in that they are the only humanoid race that like to sleep cuddled up against their partners and lives in nests. They usually have simple lives, spending much of their time in the nests of their large, branching families. They are, however, skilled scavengers, and their desire to amass treasures and trinkets propels them to the outside world and a life of adventure.
Possession is not merely 9/10 of the law in ratling culture. Possession is a legal term. As a result, a law-abiding ratling will not remove something from another being's person, or from a public institution if the object in issue is the establishment's property. They will not enter a private house to collect goods. If, on the other hand, a person leaves something sitting on a table when nature calls or lays their bag down by a river while bathing, a ratling will consider the items abandoned by their owner and therefore fair game.
They are frequently proud of their collections and achievements, and they are eager to defend their claims when they are questioned.
Ratlings are nearly universally despised by the other races, and are regarded as disease and plague spreaders. This is an unjust charge because ratlings have a robust immune system and, as a result, not only can they fight sickness successfully, but they are also rarely disease carriers. Most individuals, however, will avoid ratlings or, at the very least, try to get away from them as fast as possible without offending them. Many cities will not even let a ratling in. This has resulted in numerous cases of ratlings infiltrating towns via sewage systems or other questionable entry routes, incidents that have done nothing to dispel suspicions that they bring sickness into communities.
