The Order of the Holy Shield
Formed at the height of The Demon War by members of multiple religious denominations who wished to contribute more directly to the war effort, The Order of the Holy Shield was instrumental in fighting back against the demonic forces and cultists of the Arch Demon Val'Gorath.
Prior to the founding of the Order, clerics of various faiths were seldom seen on the frontlines of the war, limiting their activities to tending to the wounded and ministering to those whose lives had been destroyed during the conflict. Following a series of temples being desecrated by Val'Gorath's followers, however, among many of the priesthoods, individuals began to speak that a more proactive role needed to be taken against the seemingly unstoppable wave of destruction beginning to be unleashed across the land.
In mid-1243 AoU, a conclave of faiths was called in Valliné, the outcome of which was that leave was given to any whose consciences called them thusly to leave their current posts and join this newly founded order.
Members of the Order became experts in the arts of banishment, exorcism, and in channeling their divine favour into beating back the demonic hordes and their cultist accomplices. Fighting alongside the armies of The Kingdom of Vallanna & The Kingdom of Ashalla, they would make a huge impact on the battlefield, and although the war would go on for another four years, subsequent to the Order's founding, without their intervention, it is likely that Val'Gorath would have been successful in his plans to overrun the lands.
Disbandment
Publically, the Order disbanded following the end of the Demon War. However, a small presence remain, guarding the secret and secure vaults which the Order built to contain the dangerous demonic and magical artifacts which were captured during the war.
