During the early years of The Demon War, Thyvas and his brothers would make a name for themselves as travelling merchants willing to brave the dangers of the open road to ferry supplies between the beleaguered cities and towns of Vallanna. As the war stretched on however, it would become more and more dangerous to make such journeys. Following the murder of Thyvas' younger brother Havvan by cultists while on the road between Laranna and Serenal, his two older brothers would give up the travelling lifestyle, returning to the family home in Steinstad.
Thyvas however, was determined to soldier on, seeing the difference (and admittedly profit) which he was making in those troubled times. This was nearly to lead to his death however, when he was set upon by a roving band of cultists, one evening in early 1247. Resigned to his fate, but determined to at least give a good accounting of himself against the cultists, aid was to unexpectedly come in the form of the three founding members of The Azure Chain - Aegic Enarren, Eryn Trevethen and Olarael Sin'ara, who were making their way through the area following Aegic's dramatic absconsion from The Cerulean Palace in Valliné.
The cultists dealt with, Thyvas would pledge his axe to his rescuers, even before learning of their identities, becoming the fourth member of The Azure Chain.
He would travel with and fight alongside the other members of the Azure Chain for the rest of the war, using his business connections to secure supplies for the group, as well as to gain information which helped the group to better plan their contributions to the war effort.
Thyvas would be present during The Battle of Auricheim, suffering a grievous wound at the hands of the Arch-Demon Val'Gorath, but ultimately surviving; his hardy Dwarven constitution seeing him through where others might have been felled. Nevertheless, he would still spend many weeks recovering from his wounds as the Chain, alongside the victorious armies of Vallanna and Ashalla withdrew from The Auric Wastes and travelled first to Seorsa'Emel and then to Valliné.
Following the end of the war, the surviving members of the Azure Chain would mostly disband to return to their lives, although they would remain close associates going forward.
Thyvas was one of the guests of honour at the marriage in 1250 of Crown Prince Aegic Enarren and Lady Eryn Trevethen.
The connections he had made during the war and as a member of the Azure Chain, along with the honour and prestige which he had learned along the way, would stand Thyvas in good stead upon his return to wider Dwarven society, and over the following decades, he would rise through the ranks of The Overguild to become High Master of the up-and-coming mining town of Shalefast, in The Drakeseat Mountains.
