Ineshti
Although the substance goes by many names in other nations, including Sucari crystal, Sucari sand, crystallized eminence, powdered amethyst, and liseralite, the Sucari people refer to it as ineshti, meaning "of the gods" or "gods-given."
Most samples of ineshti that are shipped out are in crystallized form. They are small, ounce-sized composites of glowing purple substance that are used in various ways. It can be used as-is (depending on a ritual or potion's requirement), powdered, or polished and cut like a gemstone. In some instances, ineshti can even be confused for amethyst, but a true magical practitioner would be able to sense the difference. Ineshti is far more potent and is a very popular magical catalyst.
History & Usage
Discovery
The Sucari people have always known about this substance, but it was "discovered" by other nations when maritime travel was able to take them to the island of Sucar. As a sign of goodwill among fellow nations, the Sucari offered a small sampling of ineshti. Early magic practitioners quickly sensed the potent magical properties that emanated from these violet crystals and, soon, a vibrant trade agreement was set up.
Everyday use
For the Sucari, ineshti is not only a magical catalyst, but it is also a substance which they imbibe in small quantities on a regular basis. Powdered ineshti is used in recreational drinks in addition to alcohol. Though the material is tasteless, it is thought to improve the mood and increase magical energies throughout the body. It also gives a vibrant purplish coloring to liquid substances to which it is added.
Cultural Significance and Usage
The Sucari refer to the material as gods-given or "of the gods," which is a nod to Aara's Sacrifice, the creation myth of the Sucari people and the cultural/historical source of ineshti. They believe that ineshti is a substance that is leftover from the life force of Aara, who is no longer alive in a traditional sense, but her energy and magic is encased in all living things, as well as ineshti. The material is considered precious to the Sucari, and the island is the only known place on Valleris where it naturally occurs. The Sucari view themselves as protectors of natural balance, so while they trade ineshti with other nations, they are strict with the amount shipped out, to ensure enough ineshti is replenished and cycled back.
