Lifeguard

History & Creation

A special unit known as the Lifeguard protects the Emperor of Druna. While most military units have been replaced with members of the Freesoul population, with necromancers taking the lead, this unit was specially curated for the royal leader of the Empire of Druna.   The Lifeguard unit was invented by Aiden Craft and Niles the Paranoid, two founding fathers of stitchcraft necromancy, a specialization centered around binding multiple Freesouls together to form more powerful undead summons. Members of the Lifeguard unit are the most colossal stitchcraft yet invented, and any larger creations would immediately be next in line for the formation.   Aiden Craft himself was the sole creator of the first Lifeguard unit, and the Drunan rulers have kept the recipe a closely guarded secret. Only the top Royal Necromancers are permitted to set their eyes on the complex and daunting instructions, which warn that incorrect application could result in death, dismemberment of the necromancer, and/or the accidental opening of interdimensional portals. Around 60 ER, the Chief Royal Necromancer was lost forever when he opened such a portal and slipped through.

Use & Appearance

Thirteen in all, these stitchcraft guard the Emperor of Druna day and night. When he appears in public, six will flank him on either side in a straight line, and the thirteenth member will bring up the rear.   In the past, they had variable numbers of eyes and limbs, but the former monarchs generally agreed that they were unsettled by the idea that an arm could be watching them as they slept. A Lifeguard now generally possesses two heads, six arms, and tree trunk-sized legs. Their tough skin is made of a flesh and stone composite, giving them a slightly marbled look.   Lifeguards are dressed in thick armor and wield large, two-handed weapons in their middle two hands. The top two hands are free to grab the shields strapped to their backs, and the bottom two hands are for grabbing and holding their victims down for effective destruction.
