The Phoenix Accord

As far as the average Drunan citizen knows, the Phoenix Accord is a historical society that disbanded shortly after the rise of the Drunan Empire. They were a philanthropic organization of magic casters, including sorcerers, priests, bards, necromancers, and the like. Together, they used their skills to raise Druna from the ashes of its Dark Era, which was riddled with civil war and a terrible plague.   Some of the higher educated members of Drunan society might have developed theories about the Accord and its fate. There is a theory that the Accord had a hand in the rise of necromancy and its prominence. After the countless losses of Drunan life in the Dark Era, some of the more daring spellcasters among the Accord sought to remedy the situation by developing ways to raise the dead, giving them a false semblance of life after their untimely demise.   The truth of this is debatable. Even if that were the case, then everyone would be thanking the Phoenix Accord for bringing necromancy to the forefront of magic. Graveyards and perpetual grief are a thing of the past!

Public Agenda

Traditionally, members of the Accord have shown themselves as philanthropists, and their efforts are only motivated by the furtherment of society, magic, and technology. This included the innovation of necromantic magic, which quite literally took their motto and turned it into a bustling industry in the early days of the Eternal Rise.   These days, the Phoenix Accord is thought to be inactive. Members do not openly reveal themselves, and there are no grand agendas that are shared with the public. There is no reason to do so, either, as the Empire of Druna is bustling and no longer in need of reconstructive efforts.

History

Though the exact year is unknown, the Phoenix Accord first came into existence during the period of time in Druna known as the Dark Era. After the nation underwent a catastrophic civil war, a disease came from across the sea and wiped out scores of the Drunan population. By the end of the plague, many of the living had not ever experienced a time without fear in their lives. A group of philanthropist spellcasters, who also happened to be members of the Drunan elite, decided that it was time to do something to raise the spirits of the people.   Their initiatives were many: they backed the creation of more healing houses for the sick, education in the healing arts for the gifted members of priesthood and druidic circles, and researched magical solutions to various problems that came up as a result of the war-and-plague riddled nation. In exchange for their extensive efforts, the people of Druna offered up the belongings of their deceased loved ones, including any gold that they could find, to be used as reagents in the group's efforts. Some even offered the dead bodies of the deceased, in order to assist the healing houses to better understand the toll of the disease and how to prevent it.   Many, particularly the necromancers among the philanthropist elite, were inspired by this idea of taking the titanic loss of Druna and turning it into an age of rebuilding and forward movement. The coordinators drew up organizational agreements and called themselves the Phoenix Accord, highlighting the fact that, together, they would help Druna turn death into bustling life.   As Druna rose into a powerful empire, the Phoenix Accord and its members dropped out of public view. It is thought that, now that their work had been done and the world was back in order, they had considered the job accomplished and officially disbanded. Others think that they went on to change direction in secret, pushing forward the necromantic arts after getting the initial taste during the revitalization era. Wherever they went, no one really knows for certain. The Phoenix Accord has not been mentioned in public record for more than two hundred years.

Our end is but the pendant of our beginning.
