Geography & Natural History of Cumulus Hills

Cumulus Hills is a non-native natural satellite of the planet Valmars. Originally an asteroid, it was entrapped by the planet's orbit sometime in pre-recorded history (the first era). It maintains an orbit of approximately 5 miles above the surface of the planet. Its surface is generally ovoid, with a long diameter of ~116 miles and a short diameter of ~58 miles. It is approximately 50 miles at it's deepest.   Once every 30 days, the orbit of the planet and the orbit of the asteroid line up. The surface city of Auburg sits at the connection point, and it is possible to travel from one to the other for a period of 24 hours once per month.   Cumulus Hills is a dessert-hills environment, with a few mountain ranges. A large volcano, Mount Smoldera, lies near the center of the asteroid. Large, rocky chasms are present in the plains north of Mount Smolder, and in the far east of the region. The Great Falls in the east are over a mile wide, and spill out into this eastern chasm.
