Plains of the Damned

The Plains of the Damned lie west of Evergrove and, despite their illustrious beauty, are an often ominous place due to the amount of floranecromancy conducted by the Ilaen.

Practices and Rituals

The Ilaen have spent the last hundred years or so refining their skills in floranecromancy, resulting in the resurgence of arboreal growths across the plains. The efficacy of these practices depends largely on the skill of the caster and how many times the rituals involved have been cast.   For those trees nearest Evergrove proper, floranecromancy rituals have been practiced regularly, resulting in beautiful trees bearing the scars and character of the lives they lived before being hewn. The rituals resurrecting them need to be cast less and less frequently as the enigmatic magic surrounding their revival strengthens its foothold on the Material Plane. This unexplained anchoring is the major cause for concern among the Haki.

Effects on the Local Area

While there are no explicitly ill-effects from the floranecromancy, trained eyes have distinguished subtle changes to the longest-revived plants. Namely, they appear almost washed-out in color and contrast. For those plants consumed or picked after revivication, no changes have been seen. To the Ilaen, this change in palette is a small price to pay for the regeneration of their home.
