The Umran Guard

In an effort to hold onto traditions which otherwise have no place, the Orcs of Umra frequently provide servitude to The Umran Guard. Half militia, half prison-guards, the Umran Guard provides the security for Cliffsreach and the city of Umra as well as the oppressive oversight of The Indentured.

Serving in the Umran Guard is considered an honor, though any Umran-native can join. At it's best, it is a morally-questionable law enforcement group that keeps the order in the town and city it protects. At its worst, it is a racist group of torturous men and women who see themselves above the law.

To non-slaves, the group operates with as much morality as any other guard unit; tragically, that is not the case for The Indentured.

In dealing with the miners, their methods are often cruel and violent, and when they aren't physically assaulting those who violate real or imaginary rules, they verbally harass them. This behavior is seldom seen by visitors and outsiders, though, as the rest of Astagua looks down on the slavery permitted in the Umra region. Any who witness the treatment of the slaves are offered large sums of money to stay quiet.
