The Boroxe is one of the last remaining chimeras from the Necromancy War. They were originally created in Kealriv as a mix between the Saraptan Boar and the Wulmoth Ox. They were created by the Transmutation mage Bari the Mad. The Boroxe are known for their stubborn tempers and being difficult to train. However, they're incredibly hardy, and their small size makes them ideal for working as pack animals getting up and down the mountains. About two hundred creatures were originally created and since have been bred to develop the Boroxe as a more natural hybrid creature.
They have thick horns on either side of their heads and tusks that grow from the lower jaw. The upper canines are also elongated and grow downwards. They have extremely coarse and thick fur which protects them from freezing temperatures. There's a slight hump on the back near the shoulders which is higher than the head. They stand at about 3.5-4 feet and weigh up to 400 pounds. They mostly come in solid or brindle patterns with spotted patterns being rarer. Both males and females look similar. They are herd animals, and it's easy for people to tie them in a line and lead one. The rest will follow.
Boroxes are now commonly found throughout the northern part of Kos and are mostly used as pack animals and to pull plows. They can eat just about anything that's remotely edible making them easy to maintain. They have two stomachs, and when threatened, they will gore whoever gets in their way. In emergency situations, they're also quite edible, and the horns can be used for drinking.
The babies lack the distinctive horns and tusks which only grow in during adolescence. They live to be about 30 years old. They also taste good, and some people breed them specifically to be eaten. Most people acquire their animals from dedicated Boroxe breeding farms. Despite being magical in nature, they're surprisingly mundane to interact with and only have a low amount of latent magic inside of them.
