Chimeras are creatures that are created by transmutation mages and involve combining animals together. The practice is now outlawed, and most chimeras are unviable. They can't reproduce. Though they were inspired by hybrid monsters such as harpies, chimeras lack any kind of soul and aren't truly considered alive. A few transmutation mages combined their work with necromancy to create more viable creatures, but those ended up being extremely rare and powerful as new species. Though unable to reach sapience and typically of below average intelligence compared to their god-created counterparts, these chimeras became highly sought after for the magical and mundane properties they possessed. In particular, they became a key part of the Necromancy Wars which was part of what led to chimeras being outlawed.
