Generic Varmint Rifle
Rifles in this general category are chambered for a variety of mid-range calibers, including the .223 Remington and .270 Winchester. In addition to “varminting,” or eradicating pests and small predators, these rifles are also used for target practice and competition shooting. Rifles in this caliber range occasionally find combat applications when necessity dictates, but most serious sniper rifles use larger calibers for better range and lethality. Varmint rifles are almost always bolt-action and feed from an internal magazine.
