The Devoted of Hermes
The study of Dragon lines and their nexus points requires committed individuals who must be willing to brave inhospitable or hostile territory to do so. These scholars sometimes face Lupine packs, groups of hostile mages, angry spirits and other supernatural creatures who claim the Dragon nests for their own. The Devoted of Hermes is one of several “knightly orders” within The Ordo Dracul that is dedicated to keeping a roving watch of the Dragon nests around the world, and facilitates expeditions to study them.
Members of this knightly order are typically drawn from promising journeymen and low-ranking elders. Each member performs a rotating period of active service lasting 12 years. During such times, members of the order maintain roaming patrols in their assigned regions, escort Dragons to and from Dragon nests, and keep unclaimed nests free from interlopers.
When escorting members of the covenant, the Devoted of Hermes are entirely responsible for their safety and welfare, organizing everything from travel to safe havens and reliable sources of Vitae. They act as bodyguards, guides and assistants, and in so doing accrue a degree of respect and prestige beyond their nominal rank in the covenant. As with other such knightly orders, membership in the Devoted of Hermes is by invitation only. New members must be approved by covenant elders in any given area.
The Devoted of Hermes typically operate in tight-knit coteries built around a mix of complementary Skills and Disciplines. Scholars, warriors, diplomats and scoundrels all have their place in this knightly order, and are employed according to their gifts. Members of the Devoted of Hermes are allowed to add the title “Defender of the Faithful” to their normal title and rank.
