Rudisi Grain (/ruˈdisi/)

Summary

The Rudisi Grain plant is a hybrid plant that was created to address food challenges that new colonies might face on various planets. It was bred to be an excellent adaptor for various climates and soil types. The high yield and nutritional value of the grain support the dietary needs of colonists, while its drought resistance and pest resilience reduce the reliance on irrigation and chemical pesticides, making it a sustainable agricultural solution. Additionally, its use in animal feed and biofuel production further enhances its value to burgeoning settlements, contributing to the overall self-sufficiency and sustainability of new colonies.

History

Rudisi grain is a hybrid plant that was created by fusing Genctulta Sorghum and Valdalsa Wheat. These two plants are a widely used food source for many planets but these plants do not fit all planets that colonies may find themselves on. Rudisi grain was created to fix this issue, creating a widley and fast growing food source that can survive many climates.

Appearance

Rudisi grain is a tall standing grain. Standing at 1.2 to 1.5 meters when ready to harvest. Rudisi has broad and flat, dark green leaves with a waxy coating that helps keep water in. It's stalk is sturdy, with a reddish hue inherited from the Genctulta Sorghum. The grains are small, golden-brown seeds clustered densely on the head. These heads produce on average 60 kernels of grain, far more than either parent does.

Growth and Cultivation

Rudisi grain is extremely climate Adaptive, thriving in a variety of climates, from temperate to arid. Rudisi has a very fast growing cycle, with maturity of just 90-100 days. Rudisi soil requirements are very lax as it can tolerate many ranges of soil, from loamy to sandy. The water requirements of the Rudisi is somewhat higher than that of the parent plants, due to the amount of grain that it grows. This is the only limiting factor of the plant, if the colonist have access to water or are able to bring sufficent water, then Rudisi is a perfect colony starter.
