Stone Coffin

The ground is hungry. Feed it orphan children.
Wait, no, who said that? Chaotic evil sages, man. They crazy. But seriously - this spell basically feeds the earth its victims. Not that  the earth is a thing that needs to eat. Unless water counts as food for it? To make good soil and whatnot? Anyway, no, the ground in Vana isn't sentient and doesn't need sustenance like me with the five meals I eat every day.

Effect

The ground opens up to swallow the target of this spell. The caster may halt the spell early, thereby using it only to trap the target within the stone. Or, they can complete the spell and collapse the stone to crush their victim. This spell actually used to be called "stone prison" before it was further developed to do that last bit of dirty work there. But hey, at least they don't need to dig a bunch of graves in the aftermath of a battle...

Side/Secondary Effects

If failed, the earth might not close over the target, but rather explode upward in all directions with enough force to pierce through heavy armor. If enemies surround the area, then a botched spell might not be so bad. It allies are nearby, however, it might not be worth it to chance a spell like this...

Manifestation

The earlier metaphor of feeding the earth is a good way to think about this. A hole doesn't just open beneath the target - that would require the destruction of matter and let's not get into that madness. Instead, the earth displaced in order to make the hole erupts upward in spikes almost like teeth, and then closes over the target to form the "coffin."
