Oracle of Zol

The Oracle of Zol is the figurehead of the convoluted theocracy that is the Zolus people. In theory, the Oracle is always chosen directly by the god Zol, the Great Sun Himself - during the Ascension, a ritual that takes place immediately after the new Oracle is found, He shines a ray of light directly upon the Oracle to show His favour. However due to their gods general lack of interest in the happenings of man so long as the order of the world is upheld, oftentimes the position is a purely political choice, often being given to members of specific families to cement alliances or disrupt political opponents.   Oracles are always women, and true Oracles always have a small birthmark shaped like a stylized sun in the well where their collarbones meet, as well as golden coloured eyes after their ascension. Their role is simple - Speak the words of Zol, and uphold the order of the world. The cycles of nature are important to the Zolus, and true believers will not stand an unnatural abomination to live. As true Oracles are very rare, however, their true role is generally to keep the Zolus populace under an iron fist, bringing great wealth and power to the already-wealthy noble caste. Sweeps of homes are frequently made to check for female babies, and Oracles are often snatched at birth and raised to believe what this small cadre of nobles tell her about the unworthy nature of the poor, or lesser.   When an Oracle Ascends, as per the usual naming conventions of the Zolus, her prior prefix is replaced by Zo' to match the name taken by the entirety of the clergy.
