Merrow
Merrow are a subrace of merfolk touched by fiendish influence. Legend says the first Merrow were once merfolk who found an idol to the Demon Lord Thurzin at the bottom of the ocean. This society of merfolk were ruled by a king, and when the idol was discovered, the loyal subjects brought it before their king. All who touched the idol were warped by Thurzin's demonic energies, spending great energy to get others to touch the idol and spread his influence. The king ordered a gate to the Abyss be opened, and sacrificed countless merfolk in order to perform the blood magic necessary to do this. The king and the rest of the kingdom went through this portal into the Abyss, becoming followers of Thurzin in earnest, and mutating as time passed, warping these merfolk into the monstrous Merrow.
Much like the Tieflings on the surface, Merrrow are often viewed with fear and mistrust due to their infernal heritage. While many of their kind do live up to the monstrous stereotype, and delight in serving their demonic lord, it is certainly not inherent to the race. Merrow of all alignments exist, and many have integrated themselves into other merfolk societies.
Merrow look similar to other merfolk races, but posses some rather monstrous qualities. Their eyes have no pupils, their teeth are long and fang-like, and they have long, sharp claws on their hands. Males have tendrils protruding from their chins.
