Character Creation

Table of Contents

Overview

Character creation starts with a basic idea of who your character is. The basic things to consider first include their name, quirk, and alias. It can be helpful to start in that order, as their alias will often be related to their quirk or some aspect of their personality which may be revealed while creating their quirk.   Names are for the most part self explanatory, so we will not discuss creating a name for your character. However, useful resources may include:   Quirk creation does require some careful consideration. Quirks, almost exclusively originate from the user's body and/or have some type of biological relationship with the user. For instance, your hero may have the ability to sense and intrepret vibrations such as sound waves as they contact their hands. This quirk is related to some biological aspect about themselves which is heightened above what most quirkless individuals would be capable of. This quirk also allows for some flexibility and room for development. For the purposes of this example, we will name this quirk: Seismometer.   Quirks within this setting should also have some downside. To build upon the previous example we will add a downside to the quirk which keeps the quirk grounded.   Seismometer
The ability to sense and interpret vibrations such as sound waves as they contact their hands. However, the user is extremely ticklish. Prolonged use results in uncontrollable laughter fits.

We now have the basis for our quirk as well as a downside. The last thing left to develop for our quirk is its activation. Which is either voluntary or passive. Voluntary means that the user must intentionally focus in order to activate their quirk. Passive means that their quirk is always active. Our example quirk could be interpreted either way. Voluntary activation of the quirk would, of course, mean that the user would likely need to use some level of control and discretion while using the quirk so as not to activate its downside. Whereas a passive activation of the quirk would mean that the user would have to develop careful and precise management of their senses and nervous system so as not to succumb to uncontrollable laughter fits all day long. For this example, we will select passive activation of the quirk because it may allow for more interesting storylines.   For our alias lets select something which sounds as if it relates to our quirk. Lets make our hero alias: Tremor. We now have our name, quirk, and alias. I advise most people to find a photo that represents what you would like your character to look like at this point. Photos can be anything that inspires you whether it is a photo of a real person or a drawing of a character. For our purposes, I will select this drawing by Icky H found at: https://designyoutrust.com/2017/09/am-i-evil-slick-artworks-by-icky-h/     Next, we decide upon their Date of Birth, Generation, and Bio.   Their Date of Birth will help determine their Generation. For our example we will select January 12, 2000 is our character's DOB. This would make them a Modern age hero in our setting. The basic breakdown of generations within our setting are approximately:   Professionally active within:
  • Modern: 1995 ~ 2020
  • Bronze: 1975 ~ 1995
  • Silver: 1955 ~ 1975
  • Gold: 1920 ~ 1955
Note: You can get more information about generations here: https://www.magpiegames.com/masks/   We must now decide on a bio. This section is where you will decide who your character is and how they decided to become a hero. Once everything is put together you will likely have something similar to the following:
2-33.jpg
Name: Cleo Stone
Alias:Tremor
DOB: January 12, 2000
Generation: Modern
  Quirk: Seismometer
The ability to sense and interpret vibrations such as sound waves as they contact their hands. However, the user is extremely ticklish. Prolonged use results in uncontrollable laughter fits.
  Activation: PASSIVE
  Bio:
Cleo discovered her quirk while playing with her friends as a child. During a game of hide and seek she found she was able to find her friends more easily by feeling the vibrations of the ground around her. Always a bit of a tomboy, she found that she had a love for rough housing, fighting and getting in and out of trouble. As she grew older, she discovered that she also had a distaste for those who would take advantage of others. She decided then to use her natural physical strength and her quirk to defend those who couldn't defend themselves.   Back to Top

Student IDs

Student IDs will be created for those who play the game and provide a photo of their character. Student IDs will exclude some information and include information not found in the character sheet. A photo of the character is necessary in order to create a student ID. The photo may be of a real person or of a drawn character. Below you will find examples of student IDs as well as an example of the character we have created for this overview.
