Falconhurst

This is the capital of Elphora. As a city it’s main temples and religious focus is Sol, goddess of the Sun. The city is built up of a large amount of limestone, and in some of the richer districts marble.   The capital city of Elphora has changed between Falconhurst and Hedgefort on a few occasions. Most Falconhurst became the capital in 919, around 36 years ago.   Maps depict the city as being just north of the river, however the city itself is built over the Hurst Confluence - where the river Beresding and Zilda meet - becoming just Zilda. This splits the city naturally into three districts. The smallest, Eastside, is where the wealthiest people live. It is home to the Elphoran history museum, as well as Falconhurst Cathedral and Falconduhn - the biggest castle in Elphora and home to the Queen. The lands of the castle form a triangular shape within the Hurst Confluence. On both sides the castle has sheer drops into the rivers below, with the third side opening up expansive land and looking over the Eastside.   Falconhurst is where you will find the main buildings for the two bardic colleges - The Order of the Lute and The Flute League - in Elphora, which are both in Southside. Southside is the middle and largest district of Falconhurst, holding a good amount of housing, but mainly attractions, such as shopping high streets, theatres, an outdoor market, and a significant red light district, designed for wealthier patrons. The area also has shrines and smaller temples to many of the other gods. You can find a couple of art galleries and museums within this district. Street performers, performing impressive feats with fires and magical lights are common here, or street musicians playing an array of instruments. Southside is also home to Vanor's tallest building, The Tower. It has multiple stopping places and viewing points as you climb the stairs, which are not for the faint hearted. Just outside of the bustling city centre you can come across a permanent circus tent and the Falconhurst Zoo. Southside is known to be an excellent place for either a family day out, or an exciting night of drinking and partying.   Westside is the poorest district in Falconhurst. A large portion of this district is small apartment buildings and houses rented as single rooms. It also has a number of seedy alleyways, and it's own thriving red light district catered to a poorer clientele. There are multiple criminal bases in Westside and it is generally considered an unsafe place to be. Locals from Eastside and Southside do their best to avoid it, as do ay tourists who know what's best for them.   On the 23-24 of Solma (the 7th month) Falconhurst has the Festival of Light, designed to celebrate Sol.   Falconhurst is home to both the Royal family - and the Falconhurst noble family - the Sunroot family.
