History
One of the first towns settled after The Tragedy of Half-lit Island, Horken had a mainly human population and specialized in the production of general goods, mead, equipment, and a fair amount of mining. After Horken initially was settled they started to form a government called The Republic of Man, which was a very weak government however it kept things civil at least. One of the members of The Republic managed to gain a significant enough following and overthrew it after a dozen or so years after it was founded. That man then declared himself the Emperor of Astiria. Horken was plauged by significant financial problems after the construction of the Emperor's Castle and was down in the dirt monetarily for a few hundred years. In the year 956, a dwarf named Rodorik strode into town and set up a research facility underground. He paid the town of Horken significantly to send them prisoners meant for hanging for experiments. This kept Horken afloat for several more years and it started to look on the up and up, however, when Horken ran out of prisoners, Rodorik insisted on using inmates that were scheduled for release. Rodorik could not pay Horken as well and the town went back to being slightly financially devastated. Crime went wild until Emperor Leck gave 10,000 gold pieces for hiring guards in 1288. In the year 1300 four adventurers were on a quest to hunt down Rodorik, who was doing human experimentation at the time. The adventurers were named Avenue, Buddy, Cosmo, and Bruce. They found the dwarf and slew him, ending his funding of Horken and the dark experimentations. After the crowning of Emperor Cadmus, he supplied Horken with significant funds and fixed many of the issues the city was facing. While the city still had an underlying black market on the surface Horken became a much safer place.
