History
Tarul Var was born in the country of Thay to a small Thayan family and was recruited at a young age by the lich Duva to serve in Szass Tam's army. Tarul was found to have certain magical abilities which made him immediately stand out amongst the other Thayan magicians. Tarul saw that he had potential and he used his skills to manipulate his training companions into the Minions of Var. Tarul var ended up slaying Duva in his attempt to become a general in the army himself. Szass Tam took notice of this slaying and decided to endorse Tarul Var and his antics. Szass Tam proceeded with the ritual to turn Tarul Var into a lich. Tarul Var at the age of 36 became a lich. After becoming a lich Szass Tam educated Tarul Var of the enemy, a land called Astiria. Tarul Var vowed his support to Szass Tam and was put in charge of The Doomvault.
Personality
Tarul was an arrogant and devious individual. He knew that his success depended on a favorable result from The Doomvault, but he did not truly believe that he could fail. He believed that all living creatures were weaker than liches. He often berated his enemies and encouraged the cruelty of his underlings. Tarul Var wasn't very cunning but he did know how to give a speech.

Death
Tarul Var was killed in Thay at his mansion by the marvelous merchants in the year 1302
