Traklan AKA. The Chainlands

Traklan

Population: 2014   Races: Mixed   Status: Secretly Rich   History   Traklan was settled in the year 1000. The town was settled amongst pleasant grasslands that used to inhabit hill giants. The town was hard fought for, and the giants resisted mightily. The giant king Baggon was killed in the year 1003 and with his defeat, The Winterkeep Kingdom was able to establish dominance in the area. Giants still remained but were much less of an issue once their king was dead. The town changed drastically in the year 1046 when it was found that Traklan was built upon a massive store of diamonds. This was kept secret from Emperor Leck and the diamonds started to be mined and sold for resurrections. The diamonds were deep underground and difficult to mine until one mad dwarvish artificer proposed raising the ground up so that the diamonds could be more easily collected. He was popular in his madness and had influenced with the Winterkeep King at the time so he began his project. He set up 8 massive towers made of damascus steel. He attached humongous chains to these pillars. He then made a small fortress that cleverly used immovable rods to support the chains. The Dwarf then raised the ground up and a large suspended island now floats above a diamond mine. The town was moved under the mass of dirt and was much more prosperous sense. The town kept its true source of income secret until it was revealed in the year 1301 they were hoarding diamonds. Save changes Description   Traklan lies under a massive suspended piece of dirt in the air. Nothing lives atop the chains because it is deemed unpractical and unsafe. The town disguises itself as a farming community that farms mushrooms but secret tunnels lie in important buildings that lead to the diamond mines hidden below. The rolling hills that surround Traklen are known as the Chainlands and house giants, orcs, goblins, and other monsters who try and raid the town frequently for income. The town has no walls but a large guard supply and watchtowers around the outside of town. The chain towers are placed in a circle around the island and are unguarded however, they are reinforced and virtually indestructible. The town ends up being known for its temple that worships Lathander the Morninglord. While the clergy has little effect on the town directly it is one of the few churches that worship him in Astiria
